Apply for Extra Help

Extra Help, also known as LIS (Low-Income Subsidy) is a Social Security program designed to help people with limited income pay out of pocket costs for Medicare drug coverage (Part D). Part D penalties are also waived for individuals getting Extra Help.

If you get SSI benefits from Social Security, help from a Medicare Savings Program, or full Medicaid coverage, you automatically get Extra Help. If you don't automatically get Extra Help, you can apply for it using the link below. Alternatively, you can call and schedule an appointment at your local Social Security office at 1-800-772-1213.
